What do we stand for?
Cultivating and nourishing welcoming, safe learning environments is the top priority for all those involved in Slatterys events.
Those who attend Slatterys events are expected to be there – to learn, share and connect with their peers in inclusive, welcoming spaces. We’re very grateful for the diverse and curious group of passionate individuals who make up our communities and we trust that everyone in attendance will act in good faith.
At our core, we want to spark a conversation; our events aren’t just a place where you’ll sit down and be ‘talked at’. But we can’t hold that conversation unless everyone feels comfortable and valued as they express their thoughts.
There’s nothing more important to us than the safety and enjoyment of the communities we serve. After all, without the support and goodwill we receive from our community, our events wouldn’t be possible.
Events – by their very nature – are dynamic environments that require everyone in attendance to keep each other honest. If something happens before, during or after the event that makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe for any reason, Slatterys reserves the right to enforce the values we hold dear.
Slatterys events are a harassment-free zone. We ask that all who attend our events respect every individual’s journey and understand that the harassment of our attendees, speakers, sponsors or staff on any basis or in any form will not be tolerated. We’re committed to ensuring that everyone – regardless of their gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, physical and cognitive ability, physical appearance, mental health, body size, race, ethnicity, beliefs, or opinions – can enjoy and contribute to our events.
By participating in our events, you are agreeing to behave in accordance with our values. In turn, if you feel unsafe at any point during our events, know that the team at Slatterys will have your back.
What constitutes harassment?
Harassment includes, but is not limited to, offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, physical and cognitive ability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, beliefs and opinions.
Harassment may also take the form of intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, the sustained disruption of presentations or other events, inappropriate physical contact, the presentation of sexual images in public spaces, or unwelcome sexual attention. Please be mindful that your personal intentions or opinions aren’t the objective standard when it comes to what constitutes harassment: what may seem like a harmless joke to you may be offensive to others. Attendees at Slatterys events are expected to adjust their behaviour in response to those around them.
In order for our safe learning environments to function effectively, we cannot tolerate harassment or offensive conduct in any space connected to our events; including presentation and workshop spaces, spaces in and around the venue, social events, and on online and social media platforms.
Ultimately, we expect you to present your thoughts and conduct in a way that is considerate to others.
